Mission Statement
The mission of the LSU Health Sciences Center School of Dentistry (LSUSD) is to serve the needs of the citizens of the State of Louisiana by: Educating oral health professionals to provide competent and compassionate oral healthcare. Advancing research and scholarship to improve oral and overall health outcomes. Providing health care services and education to improve the health of the community.
Combined Degree Programs
- MD/OMFS
A combined certificate in oral and maxillofacial surgery and a Doctor of Medicine degree.
- MSD (Master of Science in Dentistry)
Postgraduate students in advanced education specialty programs earn a Master of Science in Dentistry concurrently with their certificate.
International Student Programs
Other Paths:
- Internationally Educated Dentists Program (IEDP) - A mandatory three-year curriculum where qualified international dentists are enrolled in the D.D.S. program as second-year students.

Clinical Experiences
The clinical curriculum begins with simulation-based activities and progresses to predoctoral student clinics. Fourth-year students take on leadership roles as case managers and participate in specialized and off-site rotations.
Clinical Rotations:
- Rural Practice Rotation (DENT 4107) - A senior-year rotation focused on providing dental care in rural areas of Louisiana.
- TMJ Rotation (DENT 4106) - Clinical experience focused on Temporomandibular Joint disorders.
- Ozanam Inn Partnership - A student-run free clinic providing dental assessments and care to New Orleans' homeless population.
- Health Worx Community-Based Dental Partnership - Affiliated clinic in Alexandria providing oral health care to HIV-positive patients.
