Mission Statement
The mission of the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine is to educate dentists and improve the oral health of the region through patient care, research/scholarship and service.
Combined Degree Programs
- BS/DMD Honors Program
A special combined arts and sciences dental curriculum with SIUE where students complete three years of pre-professional study and four years of professional dental school.
International Student Programs
Other Paths:
- International Exchange Partnership - A strategic agreement with UIC Barcelona for an exchange program centered on academic and clinical observation.
- International Advanced Placement Program (IAPP) - A 27-month program for international dentists that includes a 3-month Clinical Certification Course followed by integration into the traditional junior class.

Clinical Experiences
A structured four-year program where the first two years focus on biomedical and preclinical dental sciences, and the final two years focus on advanced dental treatment and comprehensive clinical outpatient care.
Clinical Rotations:
- East St. Louis Dental Clinic - Offers students the opportunity to provide comprehensive dental care to disadvantaged and underserved populations in a community-based setting.
- Special Needs Dental Care Program - Provides dental treatment for adult special-needs patients at a satellite facility on the Alton campus.
- Veterans Dental Care Program - Clinical service focused on providing oral healthcare to veterans.
- Advanced Care Clinic - Focuses on advanced restorative dentistry, care for medically compromised patients, and dental implantology.
- Give Kids A Smile (GKAS) - An annual community outreach event providing free comprehensive dental care to children.
