Mission Statement
To improve the oral health of the people of Texas and the greater El Paso community by: focusing on the unique oral and overall health care needs of the border populations; demonstrating excellence in education, research, and patient care; and providing leadership to the practicing community and other area stakeholders.
Combined Degree Programs
- DMD/MPH
Offered in partnership with the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health; students complete hours toward the Master of Public Health while in dental school.
- DMD/Community Health Certificate
A required certificate embedded within the four-year dental curriculum focusing on social foundations of health and community engagement.

Research Opportunities
Research Themes:
Clinical Experiences
Utilizes an innovative symptoms-based and case-based integrative model. Students begin hands-on clinical patient care in their first semester and must complete a mandatory Medical Spanish curriculum.
Clinical Rotations:
- Texas Tech Dental Oral Health Clinic - The primary teaching facility featuring 130 operating stations and advanced digital dentistry technology.
- Community Health Practicum - A required rotation engaging with community partners in the El Paso/Juarez border region.
- Summer Immersion Program - First-year students participate in community outreach and clinical orientation in underserved colonias.
