Mission Statement
To benefit the people of the state of Connecticut and others through programs that support research and discovery of new knowledge, education and development of competent health care professionals, delivery of patient care services of high quality, and the promotion of health. We will continuously pursue excellence and innovation in our endeavors while embracing the qualities of diversity, collegiality, integrity and leadership through individual and group effort.
Combined Degree Programs
- DMD/MPH
A 5-year dual degree program in public health focusing on epidemiology, biostatistics, and social/behavioral sciences.
- DMD/PhD
Offered through the UConn-NIDCR T90/R90 Research Training Program, often focusing on Skeletal Biology and Regeneration.
- DMD/MCTR
A 5-year dual degree program in Master of Clinical and Translational Research for dental students.
- BA/BS & DMD
The Special Program in Dental Medicine is an 8-year pathway linking undergraduate preparation with dental education for high-achieving first-year students.
International Student Programs

Clinical Experiences
UConn features an integrated medical and dental curriculum. Students study basic medical sciences alongside medical students in Stage 1 and move to clinical immersion in Stage 2, emphasizing interprofessional clinical skills.
Clinical Rotations:
- Community-Based Rotations - Senior students spend 28 to 75 days in community clinics and private practices caring for underserved populations.
- Medical Clerkships - Dental students participate in integrated medical clerkships, including Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, alongside medical students.
- Pediatric Dentistry Medicaid Clinics - Students provide care to Medicaid-eligible children in community health centers.
- Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery - Clinical rotations at affiliated hospitals like John Dempsey and Hartford Hospital.
