Mission Statement
The mission of the UNE College of Dental Medicine is to improve the health of Northern New England as well as rural and underserved areas while shaping the future of dentistry through excellence in education, discovery, and service.
Combined Degree Programs
- B.S./D.M.D. Accelerated Dental Track
A 3+4 year program allowing qualified undergraduate students in the Medical Biology major at UNE to complete both degrees in seven years.
International Student Programs
Other Paths:
- Advanced Standing Track (AST) - A 29-month full-time track for international dentists that starts with a preparatory spring semester followed by integration into the D3 and D4 years. Note: This pathway is occasionally suspended for specific cycles (e.g., 2026-2027).

Research Opportunities
Research Themes:
Clinical Experiences
A four-year D.M.D. program featuring a patient-centered curriculum with early clinical exposure. The first two years emphasize simulation and foundational sciences, while the final two years focus on comprehensive patient care and community rotations.
Clinical Rotations:
- Community-Based Externship Program - D4 students complete up to three 12-week rotations at community-based sites across Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.
- UNE Oral Health Center Rotation - Students gain hands-on clinical experience starting in the third year at the state-of-the-art Oral Health Center in Portland, Maine.
